As the rain begins to clear after a period of very wet and windy weather (and which caused numerous train cancellations) the Sling and Lavan Tramway track and line side clearance vehicles are out preparing for the resumption of services in the morning. The line side strimmer vehicle is based on one made by Dave Watkins and which appeared in SMT No. 63 (Feb 1993).
The brush fitting is very neat – I have a need for something like that, although I had been thinking of a brush mounted on a (heavily weighted) wagon. I like the Lineside Hut track cleaner too – but it’s out of my price range!
The strimmer is incredible. I’d joked about something like that, but I hadn’t though it could be realised within the dimensions of a 16mm scale vehicle. Now downloading SMT 63!
Hi Simon,
The brush is just a bit off a door bottom draught sealer and the weight comes just from the lump of wood and the weight of the hinge arm. The strimmer is okay when used regaularly, but unfortunately when things get very overgrown I still need to go round with some shears first to cut away the thick stems.
Taking action before it becomes a problem…that’s where I always fall down. I’d also been thinking of a weedkiller train – not what I’d wanted to do, but I may have to resort to it – but again that requires regular use to pre-empt the problems!
